There is something deeply restorative about putting your hands in the soil, feeling the warmth of the late May sun, and working together to bring new life to our community spaces.
This week, our residents at St. Monica’s Senior Living gathered out on the patio to kick off our favorite seasonal tradition: spring planting. Armed with gardening gloves, trowels, and an abundance of beautiful, vibrant annuals, our community came together to transform our raised outdoor flower beds into stunning showcases of seasonal color.
Gardening has always held a special place in the hearts of many of our residents. Whether they managed expansive backyard vegetable gardens for decades or simply enjoyed tending to a few prized houseplants, the passion for growing things remains as strong as ever.
Our custom, accessible raised planting beds allowed everyone to easily participate side-by-side. From carefully loosening the roots of pink and purple petunias to spacing out rich green foliage accents, it was a masterclass in teamwork and horticultural intuition. The patio was filled with laughter, shared tips on flower maintenance, and nostalgic stories of gardens past.
A Delightful Surprise Visitor As we were finishing up our planting and giving the new flowers a much-needed watering, we caught the attention of a curious little neighbor! A cute outdoor visitor stopped by the edge of the patio to inspect our work, adding an extra touch of nature's magic to an already wonderful afternoon.
Activities like our planting day are a core part of life at St. Monica’s because they provide far more than just beautiful views. Horticultural activities offer immense physical and emotional benefits for seniors, including gentle physical exercise, sensory stimulation, and a deep sense of purpose.
Now, as our residents stroll along the walking paths or enjoy a quiet morning coffee on the patio, they are greeted by the immediate rewards of their hard work. The brilliant blooms stand as a daily reminder of what we can cultivate when we work together as a community.
The planting may be done, but the joy of tending to these gardens will last all summer long. Our residents are already looking forward to keeping a watchful eye on our new flowers, ensuring they stay watered, weeded, and beautifully vibrant for visitors and neighbors alike.
We invite you to stop by the St. Monica's campus soon to enjoy the patio, take in the fresh spring air, and admire the beautiful work of our resident gardening crew!
